South African scholar seeks collaboration with ABU on research
Prof M B C Simelane of University of Johannesburg, South Africa, has expressed willingness to collaborate with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in the area of research.
Simelane, a professor of biochemistry, made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.
The South African scholar explained that he presently had a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prof Mohammed Auwal Ibrahim of the Department of Biochemistry, Ahmadu Bello University, as a contact person.










He said he had been working with Prof Ibrahim since 2022 and that University of Johannesburg was planning to appoint him as a visiting professor.
Prof Simelane thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their warm reception and expressed the hope that he would have possible collaborations in different areas.
Earlier, Prof Ibrahim disclosed that his collaboration with Prof Simelane led to the publication of five journal articles.
According to him, in the last two years, Prof Simelane had ventured into entrepreneurship, which led to the commercialization of some of their researches.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, expressed delight for having Prof. Simelane on board.
Ahmed noted that Prof. Simelane came at a time when the University was striving to commercialize all researches.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the University had over the years built capacity in terms of research and other possible areas of collaboration.
He reiterated that the MoU by the South African scholar was a welcome development and expressed the readiness of the University Management to build on that.
Prof Ahmed thanked the guest on behalf of the University Management for the joint researches.
Those, who supported the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the guest, were Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi.
