ABU commissions 300-seater lecture theatre at Samaru College of Agriculture

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has commissioned a 300-seater lecture theatre at Samaru College of Agriculture.

It was a brief but colourful event. It took place at the College premises where the project was sited and a good number of personalities attended.

The College is one of the three agricultural colleges under Division of Agricultural Colleges. The other two are College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Mando, Kaduna, and Kabba College of Agriculture, Kabba, Kogi State.

National Vice Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) for North-West, Hon. Garba Datti Ahmed, who facilitated the project when he was a Member representing Sabon Gari (Kaduna) Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, attended the occasion.

Commissioning the lecture theatre, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the facility would help enhance teaching and learning at the 100-year old College.

Prof. Bala expressed gratitude to Hon. Garba Datti Ahmed for facilitating the project and securing many other intervention works for the University, saying that ABU would continue to identify with him for the gesture.

The Vice-Chancellor also thanked the Director, Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC), Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Musa Abdullahi Mahadi, for his unwavering commitment towards the realization of the project.

He further acknowledged with immense gratitude the Director’s enthusiasm and doggedness in transforming the Division towards accomplishing the purpose for which it was established.

In his remarks at the occasion, the National Vice-Chairman, All Progressives Congress, North-West, Hon. Garba Datti Ahmed, stated that all his gestures to the University were informed by the interest he had in the growth and development of ABU.

The former lawmaker expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the Director for the invitation to attend the commissioning of the project he was instrumental to.

In his address of welcome, the Director, Division of Agricultural Colleges, Prof. Musa Abdullahi Mahadi, recalled that the actualization of the project was re-initiated during the centenary lecture of the College in 2021 when the Vice-Chancellor pledged to provide a lecture theatre for the school.

Prof. Mahadi thanked the Vice-Chancellor for ensuring the building of the first lecture theatre in the College, stressing that the Vice-Chancellor’s support, assistance and commitment to the growth and development of the Division of Agricultural Colleges could not be overemphasised.

“Your intervention indeed came at the right time when several demand driven programmes are being introduced in the respective Colleges, thereby increasing student enrolment and necessitating requirement of facilities to cope with the increase”, he also stressed.

The event was attended by the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Mahmud Muktar, some past Directors of the Division, and many dignitaries.

The former Directors of the Division who attended the occasion included Prof. Salihu Adamu Dadari, Prof. Mamman Musa, Prof. Fatihu Yakasai Muhammad, and Prof. Ibrahim Najume Doguwar Giginya.

Others present at the occasion were Deputy Director, Division of Agricultural Colleges, Dr. Abdullahi Namakka; Provost, Samaru College of Agriculture, Prof. E.M. Shaibu-Imodagbe; and Ag. University Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T. Zango.

They also included Division Secretary, Malam Sahabi Ishaq Yahuza; Finance Officer, Malam Mustapha Mahmud; Auditor, Malam Abdullahi Musa; and Head of Security, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Adamu.
