VC commissions ACENTDFB’s new administrative block
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Kabiru Bala, has commissioned the new administrative building for the Africa Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology (ACENTDFB).
The event took place at the premises of the centre today (Wednesday 23rd April 2025).
Commissioning the new building, the Vice-Chancellor commended the centre for its dedication which had yielded results as it had 10 patents. Prof Bala called for the conversion of those patents to commercial scale so as to benefit humanity.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that with the likes of researches carried out in the ACENTDFB his dream of ABU winning a Nobel Prize would soon come true.
In a welcome address, the Centre Leader, Prof Y.K.E Ibrahim, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for providing an enabling environment for the centre to execute its activities.
He added that “besides the grants from the World Bank totaling $9.7m, its researchers have been able to attract other grants”.
Prof Ibrahim also disclosed the great impact the centre had made on the University through funding of online resource learning materials, provision of facilities for the Directorate of Advancement and International Education, facilitation of collaborations between the University and other international institutions and stimulating enterprise by institution of seed grants to researchers among others.
The commissioned administrative building has state-of-the-art features that include two forensic science laboratories, crime scene demonstration lab, moot court, class rooms equipped with smart boards, CCTV system, ICT facilities and lots more.
In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Centre Leader, Prof Mohammad Mamman, appreciated all staff of the centre and affiliated departments, while appreciating all in attendance for witnessing the commissioning.
The event was attended by principal and management officers of the University.
