Toro Council Chair praises ABU Distance Learning Centre for being among “best” in Nigeria

The Chairman of Toro Local Government Area in Bauchi State, Pharm Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo, has praised Ahmadu Bello University Distance Learning Centre for its efficiency, describing it as “one of the best in Nigeria”.

Dembo made the remarks when he called on the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, in Zaria.

The Chairman, who is an ABU alumnus having been a graduate from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, expressed gratitude to the institution for instilling the virtues of hard work, discipline and excellence in him.

He told the Vice-Chancellor that they were at the university for collaboration with ABU Distance Learning Centre.

Pharm Dembo appreciated the University Management for keeping the university beautiful despite the financial challenges facing the higher institutions.

He explained that education remained his priority as he believed it was the only ingredient capable of shaping the society.

Also speaking, the Education Secretary, Toro Local Government Area, Dr Muhammad Nasir, said ABU remained a shining example for others to come.

Dr. Nasir said they would want to collaborate with the institution’s Distance Learning Centre so as to bring knowledge closer to their people, especially the youth through the blended learning model.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, expressed delight over the visit.

Prof Ahmed said having the Chairman as an ABU alumnus was a testament that the efforts of the university were yielding good results.

He said ABU Distance Learning Centre was in fulfillment of the vision of the institution’s founding fathers to make education accessible to all.

On the areas of collaboration, the Vice-Chancellor said the local government could equally explore the institution’s agricultural potential given that the local council has vast lands for agriculture.

He also cited Institute of Education, Institute of Administration, Centre for Islamic Legal Studies, and a host of others in the university where they could further take advantage of.

Prof Ahmed commended Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for finding talent in worthy individuals, especially the young people.

He said he had worked with the governor and had the confidence that he would move the state forward.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond Bako; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Ranfindadi, were present at the time of the visit.

Also present were Registrar, Mal Rabiu Samaila; Acting University Librarian, Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed; and Director, Distance Learning Centre, Prof M B Mu’azu.

Others included the Assistant Director, Distance Learning Centre, Prof Maryam Dewu; Administrative Secretary, Distance Learning Centre, Hajiya Aisha Baballe; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ibrahim Sani Kaita.
