Re: ABU 14th VC Prof. Adamu takes over mantle of leadership, inherits 300 untreated mails

The attention of Management of Ahmadu Bello University has been drawn to a misleading caption of a story on the handover ceremony at which Prof Kabiru Bala handed over the mantle of leadership to Prof Adamu Ahmed as the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The story, captioned ‘ABU 14th VC Prof Adamu takes over mantle of leadership, inherits 300 untreated mails’, was published online on Thursday, 30th April, 2025 by Education Monitor. The story was authored by one Adamu Isah Waziri.

To say the least, the caption of the story was not only misleading but also mischievous as the title of the story did not in any way reflect what the Vice-Chancellor had said in his speech at the occasion.

The new Vice-Chancellor stepped into the office with no pending files to attend to except new ones upon assumption of office. In fact, he met a clear table and so the issue of “inheriting 300 untreated files” was not true.

To further put the records straight, all pending matters had been attended to by Prof Kabiru Bala even before his exit. The transition viz-a-viz hand-over started two months before the official handover that took place on Thursday, 30th April, 2025. All cases were treated and handled jointly by the two leaders before the expiration of Prof Kabiru Bala’s tenure. The handover was only a formal and/or ceremonial matter.

The new Vice Chancellor had appreciated all the meetings he had with the immediate past Vice-Chancellor throughout the transition period. He also acknowledged with immense satisfaction the inheritance of a very strong and supportive team, consisting of three Deputy Vice Chancellors and Principal Officers to work with.
