Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo to speak at ABU public lecture on energy security, sustainable development
Former Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, will give a lecture on energy security and sustainable development at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on Tuesday, 25th February, 2025.
The public lecture, entitled “Energy Security and Sustainable Development in Nigeria: The Way Forward for the State Governments,” is put together by the Academy of Natural Science and Engineering in Nigeria (ANSEN) in collaboration with Ahmadu Bello University.
The event, which will take place by 2:30pm prompt at Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, ABU Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, is to be chaired by Prof. Salihu Mustapha, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Academy of Natural Science and Engineering in Nigeria (ANSEN).
Sambo, an ABU-trained engineer and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, is the President of the Nigerian Academy of Science.
Prof. Sambo, whose research interests include renewal energy, energy planning, thermo-fluid mechanics, and appropriate technology, was the foundation Vice-Chancellor of Kaduna State University (KASU).
Earlier that day before the lecture, the Academy of Natural Science and Engineering in Nigeria (ANSEN) will hold an Extraordinary General Meeting billed to take place by 10am at the Postgraduate College Board Room, ABU Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
All Fellows of the Academy are expected to attend the general meeting at which committee chairmen are expected to present their reports and progresses.
The Fellows are equally expected to be fully robed in academic attire during both the Extraordinary General Meeting and Public Lecture sessions when there shall be a procession at each event.
The Chairperson, Local Organising Committee, Prof. Maryam Aminu, said in a notice for the event that the President of the Academy of Natural Science and Engineering in Nigeria (ANSEN), Prof. Danladi S. Matawal, will be the host, while the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, will declare the lecture open.
Maryam, a Professor of Virology, is the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
