NAPRI presents recommendation letter Katsina Govt for establishment of outstation in Mahuta

The National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) has presented a recommendation letter to Katsina State Government for the establishment of an outreach station at Mahuta, Daneji District, Kafur Local Government Area of the State.

The recommendation was as a result of request by Daneji District Vocational Training and All Livestock Value Chain Development Committee to Management of NAPRI to communicate to His Excellency, Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, to provide an enabling environment and resources for the establishment of NAPRI outreach station in Mahuta, Kafur Local Government Area.

According to the request, if the outreach is established, it will bring the Institute’s mandate to the people and help to resolve conflicts between farmers and herders by establishing pastures, milk collection centre, poultry, sheep and goat farms and cattle fattening programmes among others.

Presenting the letter on behalf of NAPRI Management, Assistant Director, Linkages and Extension, Dr. Yunusa Muhammad Isiyaku, disclosed that Mahuta Community has a high concentration of livestock farmers, which will help in serving the purpose for which the outreach station is established.

Dr. Isiyaku stated that cattle rustling affects farmers in Katsina State, hence the need to train them on modern animal husbandry, which will help in mitigating livestock mortality.

The Assistant Director emphasized that more profitable livestock will increase income of local farmers, considering the effects of insecurity to their livelihoods.

He said the outreach will bring benefits closer to livestock farmers in the region, provide training and extension services and support the agricultural policies of the government.

Dr. Isiyaku thanked the Katsina State Government for the warm reception accorded to them, while assuring them of the maximum support of the Institute.

Receiving the letter on behalf of Katsina State Government, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Honourable AbdulKadir Mamman Nasir expressed delight to NAPRI, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala and the Management of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for agreeing to establish an outreach station in their state.

The Chief of Staff said the Vice-Chancellor has been a friend of Katsina State, for they have crossed line in so many places.

Honourable Nasir affirmed that NAPRI is one of the most important components of the University and that it has a lots of good works in terms of animal production.

The Chief of Staff commended Daneji District for coming up with the idea, stressing that the initiative is a reflection that people are beginning to think outside the box.

According to him, animal production has taken the centre stage in the agricultural policies of the renewed hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who created the Federal Ministry of Livestock.

He reiterated the commitment of the Katsina State Government to support Daneji Community in actualizing the project.

The Chief of Staff appreciated the Danejin Katsina, District Head of Mahuta, Alhaji Bello AbdulKadir Yammama, Member representing Kafur Local Government at the Katsina State House of Assembly, Honourable Shuaibu Wakili and Mansur Ibrahim Kagara for being proactive in promoting community engagements with NAPRI.

The presentation of the letter was witnessed by delegation from NAPRI and Principal and Senior Officers of the Katsina State Government House.
