NAPRI gets L-PRES intervention projects
Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has begun execution of a number of intervention projects at the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) of Ahmadu Bello University.
The projects are part of the L-PRES intervention efforts towards bringing economic stability in the livestock value chain, employment creation, and income generation among youths and women.
The projects comprised construction of seed store with solar powered cooling system, construction of seed processing unit and procurement of seed packaging machines.
They also included establishment of 20 hectare seed multiplication plot, construction of hay ban, as well as drilling of five solar powered boreholes with water points and 5000 litre water storage tanks.
According to NAPRI’s Executive Director, Prof. Muhammed Rabiu Hassan, the intervention works, which began on 15th October, 2024, are expected to be completed in nine weeks.
The intervention projects followed visit of L-PRES National Project Coordinator to the institute last year during which both NAPRI and L-PRES identified critical areas of collaboration and support in terms of facilities, structures and capacity building in livestock breed improvement, pasture development and availability of feed for national development and food security.
While the L-PRES intervention will further help bring economic stability in the livestock value chain, NAPRI is at the task of providing the enabling environment to achieve the goal for Nigeria to solve the problem of food insecurity.
NAPRI has over the years effectively discharged its mandate and conducted proven research covering different species of livestock and their value chain.
This is through robust linkages, partnership and collaboration with national and international organisations as well as deployment of highly qualified and dedicated staff and infrastructure.
