Livestock Development Minister, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, pays brief visit to ABU
The Hon. Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, was briefly in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria today (Friday, 2nd January, 2026).
The Minister arrived at the Senate of the university, where he and members of his entourage were received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.
Maiha had a brief chat with the Vice-Chancellor on the various opportunities in Nigeria arising from the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The Hon. Minister, who is a distinguished alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, described the brief visit to his alma mater as “private”.
“There are opportunities all over the country regarding livestock development but we need to talk to each other”, he said.
Maiha explained that the need to come together for the development of livestock sub sector became necessary as so many farms were now coming up.
The Minister also said a lot of activities were happening in Nigeria as far as livestock development was concerned.
Maiha, who was visibly impressed with growth and development of Ahmadu Bello University, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and members of the university management for the warm reception accorded him.
Receiving the Minister, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, expressed the readiness of the university to complement the statutory activities of the newly established Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university Agric/Vet Complex that comprises NAPRI, NAERLS, IAR, Veterinary Hospital, and others would take advantage of the new ministry to enhance livestock development in Nigeria.
The Hon. Minister was accompanied on the visit to the university by Dr Ishaq Bello, Special Assistant, Technical; Abubakar Sadiq Maiha, Personal Assistant; and family freinds.
The Vice-Chancellor was assisted in receiving the Hon. Minister by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako; and the Registrar, Rabiu Samaila.
Others were the Bursar, Malam Aminu Mohammed Bello Gurin; and the Acting University Librarian, Dr Abubakar Mohammed Abdullahi.
They also included the Director, Directorate of Advancement and International Education, Prof M I Umar-Buratai; and Prof Sani Abba Aliyu of the Department of English and Literary Studies.
