Institute of Education, Aderonke Foundation hold Youth Leadership Development Conference in ABU
The Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University and Aderonke Foundation, have jointly organised a Youth Leadership Development Conference for some select students of the university.
The Conference took place on Saturday, 21st June, 2025, at the CBN Centre for Economics and Finance, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, commended the Management of the Institute of Education organising the conference and for securing collaborations with Aderonke Foundation.
Prof Ahmed described the collaboration as a significant milestone that needed to be sustained.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed the university’s willingness to establish a Leadership Centre in order to breed future leaders of the country.
Prof Ahmed congratulated all participants and wished them fruitful deliberations.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Director, Institute of Education, Prof Abubakar Muhammad Jumare, described the conference as an avenue where future leaders came together to rub minds and brainstorm on important leadership qualities.
Prof Jumare encouraged all participants to make good utilization of the knowledge acquired for the betterment of the future generation.
The Director expressed gratitude to the Chief Executive Officer of Aderonke Foundation, Dr. Aderonke Kujore, for collaborating with the Institute.
In a presentation titled “An introduction to good leadership”, the Chief Executive Officer, Aderonke Foundation, Dr. Aderonke Kujore, defined leadership as the process of deciding on a goal and bring people together to work towards a shared goal.
Dr. Kujore identified listenership, good decision making, bringing people together, empathy and team work as good qualities a leader should possess.
She expressed delight being in Ahmadu Bello University for the conference.
She said collaborating with the university was not by chance, rather a paramount decision that had yielded the desired result.
She thanked the Vice-Chancellor, the University Management, the Director, Institute of Education and the Institute Management for their unwavering support towards the success of the conference.
In another presentation titled “A Good Leader Self Awareness, Testing and Recognition, Leadership Presence (Body Language, Publicity)” the Head, Research, Statistics and Documentation, Institute of Education, Dr. Hadiza Nass, defined self awareness as the ability to know that every action a leader takes has consequences.
Dr. Hadiza listed inclusiveness, giving comforting voice, creating awareness, persuasion and offering oneself for service as some outstanding leadership qualities.
In his presentation, Head, Collaborations and Linkages, Institute of Education, Dr. Ya’u Tanimu, noted that leadership is a critical quality for youths, as it empowers young people become agents of positive change in their personal lives and communities.
Dr. Tanimu enjoined all participants to have a vision statement that will guide them in executing their goals as future leaders of the country.
He expressed gratitude to the Director, Institute of Education and CEO of Aderonke Foundation for the opportunity given to him.
Highlights of the event were presentation of a plague to the CEO of Aderonke Foundation by the Vice-Chancellor and questions and answers session.
