ABU Senate approves lists of graduating students from Faculties of Education, Physical Sciences

The Senate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has approved the lists of graduating students from the Faculties of Education and Physical Sciences as recommended by the Senate Standing Committee (SSC) at its 150th meeting of the 9th May, 7th and 11th June, 2024, subject to observations made.

The Senate gave the approval at its 537th (Regular) meeting held on 27th June, 2024.

It also gave approval for the recommendations of the Examinations Regulations and Irregularities Committee (ERIC) for the withdrawal of the admission of two students for violation of their matriculation oath.

On the Communication from the Academic Planning Committee, the Senate further consented to the recommendations for the mounting of the following programmes: BSc Criminology and Security Studies, MSc Paediatrics and Child Health and PhD Paediatrics and Child Health all in the Department of Paediatrics. Others are: MSc Reproductive Health, PhD Reproductive Health, PhD Obstetrics and Gynaecology and PhD Medicine.

The Senate commended the College of Medical Sciences, for its diligence in mounting of Postgraduate programmes in response to the long outstanding need for them, stressing that the College should be cautious in creating new programmes in the light of constraining circumstances and the aspirations to uphold the University’s renowned academic standard.

It decided that the review of Undergraduate and Postgraduate curricula with a view to addressing matters relating to the content update, subscription rate should continue and that the critical review of the 70% CCMAS content and development of the 30% earlier started should be concluded at all levels such that the final report from faculties can be presented by Deans to Senate at its regular meeting of 29th August, 2024.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala, congratulated staff members and a student who won various national and international research grants and awards.

Professor Bala noted the selection of the University among seven other Nigerian Universities by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the setting up of innovation Hubs and congratulated the staff members whose promotions to the ranks of Reader/Principal Research Fellow and Professor were announced following the receipt of positive external reports.
