ABU Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences inducts 36 graduands
Ahmadu Bello University Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has inducted 36 graduands into the Pharmacy profession.
The induction ceremony took place today at Pa. Ishaku Lecture Theater, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, congratulated the graduands for the fresh achievement and attainment.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the graduands to go into the society with high sense of humility and respect that the pharmacy profession commands.
Prof. Bala urged them to give back to their alma mater, stressing that the faculty has over the years received donations from Alumni Associations.
He prayed for God’s guidance and wished them well in their chosen career.
Earlier in a remark, the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Aliyu Muhammad Musa, disclosed that the graduands faced twin challenges of COVID-19 pandemic and industrial actions embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) and other University-based unions.
Represented by the Deputy Dean, Prof. M.G Magaji, the Dean stated that the graduands were moulded in both character and learning to go into the world and make the faculty and the University proud.
Prof. Musa commended all lecturers within the faculty for their doggedness and commitment, and thanked parents for their patience and understanding with the way the system works.
He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for always supporting the faculty, despite low budget from the government.
Administering the Pharmaceutical oath, the Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, (PCN), Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, congratulated the University Management for graduating 36 Pharmacists.
Represented by the Northwest Coordinator of the Council, Pharm. Bisi Obisesan, the Registrar noted that the inductees were taught with determination and resilience to attain the level they had attained.
Pharm. Ahmed said the inductees were done with the first phase of their career, and the second phase starts with the internship programme which is compulsory for all registered pharmacists.
He urged them to maintain high ethical standards as prescribed by the PCN and get acquainted with Pharmacy Code of Ethics which is indispensable to the profession.
The Registrar said the Council frowns at all professional misconducts, encouraging them to explore research aspect of the profession which is very important in the development of vaccines.
In a valedictory speech, the representative of the graduands, Pharm. Jafar Suleiman, assured the faculty and the University Management of their readiness to contribute towards the development of the University.
Pharm. Suleiman stated that today, set aside to recognize their vital role in the healthcare sector, also coincides with the World Pharmacy Day.
He thanked all lecturers and parents for their support and encouragements, saying that they are all committed to upholding the values of the profession.
Delivering a remark on behalf of parents, Prof. G.U Garba enjoined all graduands to keep the name of the faculty and the University, adding that ABU is not only a school of higher learning, perhaps the only University in Nigeria, where all the 774 Local Governments are represented.
Prof. Garba said the duty of the University is to produce men and women that will man the affairs of the State and they have done that.
He congratulated the lecturers for performing and discharging their duties diligently.
There were goodwill messages and photograph sessions at the event which was attended by all Heads of Departments within the faculty, parents, and immediate families of graduands.
