SPESSECE, Gambia’s University of Education agree to advance best practices in procurement management

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the University of Education, The Gambia have jointly agreed to establish a framework for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

This is based on their shared commitment to academic excellence, sustainable development, and capacity building in procurement, environmental, and social standards.

The pact was in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) both institutions jointly signed at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on Thursday, 25th June, 2026.

That very day, ABU, acting through its Distance Learning Centre, signed another MoU with the Gambian university on distance learning examinations, e-tutoring, and academic mobility.

ABU entered into the MoU acting through its Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement Centre of Excellence (SPESSECE).

Both parties agreed to collaborate in exchange of academic and professional staff for teaching, training, research, and professional development.

This is in addition to joint delivery of lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences.

It also entails exchange of undergraduate and postgraduate students for study, research, internships, and fieldwork as well as facilitation of short-term academic visits and study programmes.

On capacity building and training, the MoU focuses on joint design and delivery of executive courses and professional training programmes and development of tailored training for public and private sector practitioners.

The parties also agreed on collaborative research projects and publications, exchange of academic materials and best practices as well as organisation of joint conferences and policy dialogues.

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, signed for ABU, while the Vice-Chancellor, University of Education, The Gambia (UEG), Prof Adamu Ahmed, signed for his institution. Both vice-chancellors bear same names.

Those who attended the MoU signing ceremony included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako.

Others were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi and the Registrar, Rabiu Samaila.

The Centre Leader, SPESSECE, Prof Wisdom Japheth and other management staff were also present at the signing of the MoU.
