ABU don, Prof. Malachy gives insight into business startups

A Professor of Management with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Olowu Daudu Yini Malachy, has identified business as “a want satisfying entity” and “a line of working a particular trade or organization”.

Prof. Malachy stated this at an Inaugural Lecture Series No. 06/24 titled “Demystifying Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship Connectivity: Rediscovering the Soul of Managers from Startup to Established Organization”, held at Assembly Hall Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, on Wednesday, 28th August, 2024.

He also said that whether a business is small, medium or large, it will only exist in both long and short run, if it can satisfy human needs.

Prof. Malachy defined startups as newly born organizations which struggle for existence and are mostly formed based on brilliant ideas from entrepreneurs with the aim to grow to succeed.

The Professor of Management argued that the early stage of startup organization is less studied in the existing literature but there are many studies which examined controversial issues in the domain.

He noted that amidst this controversy, a challenge arose to determine what these startups are, and how they turn into companies, stressing that the work of scholars of management, organization, and entrepreneurship, and others who pursue this challenge, reduced the application to only theories in these three fields to provide a clear picture for startups.

Prof. Malachy thanked the Vice-Chancellor, the University Management and the Department of Business Administration for the opportunity given to him to present the lecture.

In a remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, commended the lecturer for a job well done.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the paper had outlined modalities through which organizations can be managed.

A plaque was presented to the inaugural lecturer by the University in appreciation of the lecture.
