AAF, FOMA honour architecture legend in ABU
Ahmadu Bello University Architecture Foundation (AAF) and Friends of Mobolaji Adeniyi (FOMA) have honoured the first professor of architecture in Nigeria.
The brief but colourful event took place on 27th February, 2025 at Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, Ahmadu Bello University, Main Campus, Samaru.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Occasion, Arc. Ibrahim Haruna, described Prof. Adeyemi as a man who shaped the nation in the field of architecture.
He said Prof. Adeyemi’s dedication and passion for impacting knowledge and values had touched countless lives.
The President, Nigerian Institute of Architects, Arc. Mobolaji Adeniyi, FNIA described the day as special to all architecture practitioners, as they honoured the founding father of architecture in Nigeria.
Arch. Mobolaji stated that the contribution of the legend in the field of architecture shaped many lives of Nigerians.
“As we celebrate his remarkable achievements, his memories will continue to inspire us in our profession” said Mobolaji.
In her tribute to her father, Arch. Adebukula Oyesiku, said Baba Adeniyi was more than an architect, as he was a “visionary, a mentor, and a trailblazer who laid the foundation for the profession we proudly practice today”.
Arc. Adebukula also said “his invaluable contributions to architectural education and practice provided the platform upon which we earn our livelihood”.
“He set a standard of excellence pushing the boundaries of knowledge and professionalism that continues to inspire us all.
“As we gather to celebrate the life legacy of an icon on this special occasion of his 88th posthumous birthday, it’s a great honour to the family”, she said.
In his address, Chairman, AAF Board of Trustees, Arc. M.J. Faworaja, PPNIA, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design, Prof. Abdullahi Abubakar, said “we are delighted to celebrate one of our heroes in his field of architecture.
He further said his contributions, dedication are far beyond teaching.
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, represented by the Provost, Postgraduate College, Prof. Mohammed Nasiru Shu’aibu, commended the remarkable initiative by AAF and FOMA for the unveiling of the bust and fund launching of the M.Sc. e-Studio for the Department of Architecture.
He also urged other alumnus to emulate such gesture to the University.
The unveiling of the bust in honour of Prof. Ekundayo Adeyinka Adeniyi took place at the premises of the Department of Architecture.
