Basketball coaches of national and international repute converged in ABU for a one-week workshop that sought to produce a manual for trainers in the game.
The workshop with the theme “Team work for better Nigerian culture” aimed at uplifting Nigerian basketball and guiding players to success.
Activities lined up for the seven- day workshop included morning and evening training sessions at the university gymnasium and outdoor basketball court near Amina Hall.
Among 52 participants to the workshop were the famous US basketball instructor, Terrance Littlefield, and Chicago Bulls Coordinator and alumnus of ABU Andy Kpedi, Isah Umar as well as the ABU famous basketball Coach Oliver B Johnson aka OBJ.
Earlier on arrival, the participants led by the Director, Directorate for University Advancement, Professor Adamu Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice- Chancellor and briefed him about the first of its kind workshop.
During the visit, the Chicago Bulls through US Coordinator Andy Kpedi and Isah Umar donated 200 basketballs, in addition to jerseys for male and female basketballers of the university. Similarly, the Vice- Chancellor was presented with a gift of customized jersey carrying his names in full.
Responding, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba, thanked Kpedi and Umar for the gestures, which he described the gesture as a pay back to their alma mater, as well as reflection of their concern for sports as unifying factor among youths.
