The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has visited the institution’s Bulk Metering Unit and expressed satisfaction with the progress being recorded at the place.

Prof Ahmed was visibly excited by the progress achieved in the area of electricity within a short period barely two months after the appointment of the Acting Head of the Unit.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was taken round various sections of the unit when he visited the place today – Wednesday, 13th August, 2025, observed that the unit was gradually taking shape.

Prof Ahmed was received on arrival by staff of the unit ably led by its Acting Head, Engr Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

He was also delighted that the university’s monthly electricity expenses were gradually reducing with the ongoing efforts to save costs.

Ahmed attributed the success to the support and cooperation of staff of the unit and other key stakeholders.

The university, according to him, would consider sending some staff of the unit for certification training to further build their capacity.

He said the university would also consider some of them living off campus for allocation of official residential quarters given the nature of their job.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked all the staff and appealed to them to support their new head in the effort towards electricity improvement on the campuses.

Conducting the Vice-Chancellor round the various sections of the unit, the Acting Head, Engr Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, briefed him on the progress so far made and the challenges being faced.

He appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to invite experts for assessment of all electricity transformers to ascertain their effectiveness.

Engr Abubakar also said the unit was planning a general maintenance for all sub-stations and systems by the end of the year when there would be less academic activities.

Abubakar further solicited for additional manpower in order to improve efficiency in the unit.

He equally told the Vice-Chancellor that the unit had procured safety boots, over rolls, and rain coats, assuring that from next week all operational staff would start appearing in them.

Abubakar thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support towards the success of the unit.
