Vice-Chancellor congratulates NAPRI team on outstanding performance at RIGAN games

• As team wins 6 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has congratulated the sports team that represented the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) on its outstanding performance at the just-concluded 18th edition of the Research Institutes Games of Nigeria (RIGAN) held in Ibadan.

The biennial event took place at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Ibadan, Oyo State from 9th – 14th December, 2024.

Announcing the feat during the University’s Senate Meeting today (Monday, 16th December, 2024), the Vice-Chancellor also thanked the Management of NAPRI for the tremendous support towards the success of the team at the sports festival.

Overall, NAPRI team secured an impressive haul of six gold, three silver, and one bronze medals.

In athletics, Michael Monyei won a gold in 200m Long Jump Veterans 4 x 100, a silver in 100m, and a bronze in Shot Put Veteran.

Mrs. Rashida Abdulmumini won a gold in Female Digital Shot Put; Hashimu Abaniwo, two gold in Long Jump Digital; Obinna Nwoso, a gold in 4 x 100m, a silver in 100m Men’s Digital; and Bashiru Lawal, a gold in 4 x 100m. In darts, Blessing Michael won a silver (502 singles); and in football, NAPRI won a gold (Digital 5-a-side).

Also congratulating the team, the Executive Director, National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI), Prof. Muhammad Rabiu Hassan, described the team’s outing as impressive and worth commending.

The Executive Director, who expressed appreciation to all staff of the institute and other stakeholders who contributed in one way or the other towards the team’s success, stressed that the institute would not relent in its support towards sports development.
