VC expresses delight as ABU Institute of Education collaborates with Aderonke Foundation on teaching of leadership skills

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has commended the Institute of Education, for collaborating with Aderonke Foundation to teach leadership skills.

Prof Ahmed made the commendation when the Chief Executive Officer of Aderonke Foundation, Dr Aderonke Kujore, called on him in his office today, Friday, 20th June, 2025.

Kujore was accompanied on the courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor by the Director, Institute of Education, Prof Abubakar Muhammad Jumare.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended Kujore for her passion towards rescuing the Nigerian education system.

Ahmed further lauded her enthusiasm for helping the underprivileged and out-of-school children have access to education and technology in Nigeria, especially in the the north.

He expressed delight that the Institute of Education was widening its horizon within the ambit of its mandate as well as following the international trends in education.

Prof Ahmed assured the institute and the foundation of ABU’s support towards teaching undergraduate students issues surrounding leadership.

Earlier, Dr Aderonke Kujore expressed delight for the opportunity the university provided her foundation to add value to ABU students.

She decried the sorry state of education in Nigeria.

According to her, it was a collective responsibility of all those who could offer change in any capacity to come together and save the country’s future.

She urged the university to establish a Centre for Leadership Development which could help improve the quality of graduates from the institution.

Aderonke Foundation has about 120 libraries across Nigeria and it has been teaching basic technology to over 50,000 students in local schools.

This is in addition to providing various leadership development programmes for students in higher institutions of learning.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, called for the inclusion of local languages in the curriculum for almajiri and out-of-school children.

Doko, who thanked Dr Kujore for sharing her knowledge with students of Ahmadu Bello University, explained that this would ease the barriers to learning.

In his introductory remarks, the Director, Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Abubakar Muhammad Jumare, explained the purpose of the visit to the Vice-Chancellor.

Jumare said Dr Aderonke Kujore was in the university for the signing of an MOU between the institute and the foundation for “youth leadership conference” for students of Ahmadu Bello University.
