VC commissions new buildings at Samaru Main Campus, ABUTH Shika
The Vice-Chancellor Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has commissioned new buildings for the Department of Computer Engineering and Department of Mechatronic Engineering at Engineering phase III Complex.
Prof. Bala also commissioned new buildings for the Faculties of Dentistry and Allied Health Sciences at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH).
Speaking during the commissioning, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the site for the Engineering Phase III complex was a hostel, but they were able to relocate the hostel to another place and stick to the original master plan of the University.

Prof. Bala noted that buildings were designed by architects at the Physical Planning and Municipal Services (PPMS) of the University, stressing that they understand academic buildings more than architects outside.
He commended former President Olusegun Obasanjo for relocating the ABU Teaching Hospital from Tudun Wada to Shika, which led to the transformation of the College of Medicine to five faculties with a massive subscription.
According to him, there is no room for expansion at the Main Campus as far as Medicine is concerned, therefore, all new buildings of the College will be at Shika.
He said the Department of Nursing Sciences is gradually moving there.
Prof. Bala prayed for the more resources to execute other projects and urged both the Faculty of Engineering and College of Medicine to raise the standards of the programmes further.
In a remark, the Director, PP&MS, Architect Suleiman Muhammad, explained that the projects are a masterpiece put together for the purpose of teaching and research.
Architect Mohammed stated that more projects are on the pipeline because some areas have also been marked to ensure their commencement.
According to him, there is no structure in the country housing two deaneries except that of Faculties of Dentistry and Allied Health Sciences.
Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Mohammed Dabo, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for providing ample spaces for two programmes of the Faculty.
Prof. Dabo said the site was encroached some time ago, and that they tried hard, it did not work, but they are happy now that it has been retrieved with their structures on them.
On his part, a Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. S.O Ajike, appreciated the University Management for believing in synergy between the University and the Teaching Hospital, which rarely exists in other places.
Prof. Ajike commended the Vice-Chancellor for actualizing their dreams of having an independent structure for the Dentistry programme and appealed that they will be coming from time to time to request for visiting and sabbatical.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the incoming Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adamu Ahmed; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Raymond Bako; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi.
