US Ambassador commissions 27th Window on America Zaria in ABU
The American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Richard M. Mills Jnr, has commissioned the 27th Window on America Zaria space in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The commissioning ceremony took place at the Phase II University of the University.
Commissioning the project, Ambassador Richard disclosed that the purpose of the space is to enhance teaching and learning for staff and students.
The American Ambassador stated that the establishment of the space represents the American values.
According to him, one of American values is to move the world forward and maintain peace around the world.
























He said the space is for workshops, career skills, learning English Language and furtherance of education.
The US envoy stressed that he hopes the corner will serve the University, faculties and all relevant departments.
Ambassador Richard emphasized that the space is open to the public and all services would be offered free of charge, courtesy of the generosity of the American Embassy.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for providing the enabling environment to establish the centre.
In his remark, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala, expressed delight for joining in opening the American corner in Zaria.
Prof. Bala said staff and students alike will benefit from from the services of the corner.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that the opening of the corner will strengthen the partnership between the University and the corner, reiterating that topics to be treated at the corner would be important and current.
He thanked the American Embassy for the partnership.
In a goodwill message, the Full Bright Scholar, coordinating the opening of the Window on America Zaria, Prof. Adele Garkida, appreciated the Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Adama Adamu, for releasing the facility for the establishment of the centre.
Prof. Garkida said the hub is an opportunity to mentor younger ones.
In another goodwill message, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Raymond Bako noted that the conversation with the American Embassy on the establishment of the hub started in 2010, but for some reasons it did not come to light till now.
Prof. Bako stated the corner is strategic to Ahmadu Bello University and Nigeria at large and that it will also serve as cultural hub in the country.
According to him, the corner will clarify some discussions as far as Nigeria and American relation is concerned.
He encouraged staff and students to take advantage that the American Embassy has provided to enhance learning, teaching and research.
The incoming Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, was among the dignitaries that witnessed the event.
Others present at commissioning were Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi.
They also included Ag. University Librarian, Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Shamsuddeen Mohammed; Dean Faculty of Environmental Design, Prof. Abdullahi Abubakar; and Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Maryam Aminu among others.
