TRCN in ABU for Professional Diploma in Education accreditation
A team of accreditation panel from the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) have paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Adamu Ahmed.
The team leader, Prof. Tijjani Abubakar, while briefing the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of the visit, said they came in recognition of the importance of Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) as an additional qualification for candidates with PDE & HND to be admitted for M.Sc. programme in the university.
The Director, Certification and Accreditation, TRCN, Dr. Jacinta N. Ezeahurukwe, emphasized the need for collaborative nature of educational licensing between the TRCN and the university.
Dr. Jacinta said that part of the council mandates was to regulate, monitor and issue certificate to all teachers who passed the council’s rigorous examinations.
She said that this was to facilitate the earning of the council certificate and license to be recognised and qualified to teach in a class as well as to practice teaching as a profession.
Earlier in his remark, the Director, Institute of Education, Prof. Abubakar M. Jumare, gave a brief overview of the historical background on the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) – the university.
Prof. Jumare said the programme was approved in 1999 and had produced over 10,000 PDE graduates, saying that the Institute of Education was a major stakeholder at the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, expressed the university’s commitment towards sustaining the programme.
He thanked the team for the visit and assured them of the university’s support in all the areas identified by the panel in the best interest of students and the institute as a whole.
Those who assisted the Vice-Chancellor to receive the team included the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Bello Muktar; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ibrahim Sani Kaita.
