Trainers and participants for Next Generation Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 Virus training visit ABU Vice-Chancellor
A team of trainers and participants for the Application Training on Next Generation Sequencing of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus at Ahmadu Bello University have called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.
The team, led by the Provost College of Medical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof M S Shehu, explained that the training was made possible through the acquisition of a Next-generation Sequencer under the TETFund Special Intervention Programme.

He expressed appreciation to the university leadership for its unwavering commitment towards research, innovation and capacity development.
The training was aimed at capacity building for cutting edge genomic techniques for viral pathogen surveillance and characterization among academic and medical staff of the University and teaching hospital.
The training was conducted by Dr. Victor Segun Ekun and Mr Leon Ervin Etieno from High Tech Detection Systems and had participants from Bayero University Center for Infectious Diseases Research, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Molecular Genetics and Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory as well as postgraduate students from Department of Biochemistry.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, reiterated the ABU’s resolve to remain at the forefront when it came to biomedical research.
Prof Ahmed encouraged collaboration between the various units and departments of the University and urged the participants to use the knowledge they acquired to conduct research that would benefit the wider community.
Those present at the courtesy call were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Rafindadi; and Ag. Registrar, Dr Aliyu Dalha Kankia, among others.
