‘TETFund call for EOI in commercial agriculture a wake-up call to Ahmadu Bello University’

The call for expression of interest in commercial agriculture by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is a wake up call to Ahmadu Bello University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, said in Zaria today.

The Vice-Chancellor was speaking when he received a two-member delegation from TETFund on Friday, 15th August, 2025 that was in university to inspect the institution’s facilities for commercial agriculture.

Prof Ahmed, who described ABU’s agricultural complex as the best in Nigeria, explained that the university was always ready to engage in commercial agriculture for revenue boost.

He expressed the university’s readiness to collaborate with Bank of Industry (BOI) and Bank of Agriculture (BOA) for improved agricultural productivity.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the delegation for the visit and wished them a successful tour of the institution’s agricultural facilities.

Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Dr Suleiman Zangina, said they came following the institution’s response to TETFund’s call for expression of interest in commercial agriculture.

Zangina disclosed that TETFund set aside N10 billion for the initiative and one billion Naira would be disbursed to 10 institutions that qualified for the grants.

TETFund, according to him, was interested in commercial agriculture and sustainability.

Dr Zangina said the initiative was going to be continuous as it would award the same amounts to other institutions by next year.

He also said they would interact with the ABU team, write a report, and make recommendations.

Dr Zangina thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture for the warm reception accorded them upon arrival.

Contributing, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond Bako, said ABU had farmlands outside the university and so land would not be a problem as far as the project was concerned.

Prof Bako also said the university would make sure the farms for the project were commercially viable.
