PEAN confers fellowship on ABU Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Raymond Bako
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako, is now a Fellow of the Philosophers of Education Association of Nigeria (PEAN).
Prof Bako was conferred with the fellowship along with the Secretary to the Cross River Government, Prof Owan A Enoh, during the PEAN 44th Annual Conference and Fellowship Investiture at Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.
Bako presented a lead paper at the five-day event that was held from 27th-31st October, 2025.
The event was attended by His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, and His Excellency, Idris Muhammad Gobir, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, who ably represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
Bako is a Professor of Philosophy of Education at the Department of Educational Foundations and Curriculum, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Prof Bako, who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Ahmadu Bello University, is also the Centre Leader, Africa Centre of Excellence on New Pedagogies in Engineering Education (ACENPEE), ABU, Zaria.
He is a Fulbright Scholar having been to the University of Maryland, College Park, USA in 1998, for the Fulbright programme.
Bako has been an active member of the Fulbright Alumni Association of Nigeria (FAAN), becoming the national President of the association from 2010-2014.
Prof Bako’s interest in engineering education started in 2007 with Prof Bernard Van Wie from Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, USA.
Prof Van Wie and his team eventually won the World Bank STEP-B grant in 2008 to deepen their work on the Cooperative, Hands-on, Active, Problem-solving Learning (CHAPL) pedagogy using a Desktop Learning Module (DLM).
Bako received training and certification on engineering education from Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, USA, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA.
Prof Bako, who has been published by the International Journal of Engineering Education (IJEE), USA, is a member of the African Engineering Education Association (AEEA), and in collaboration with the International Federation of Engineering Societies (IFEES).
