The NUJ chair, who described Prof Ahmed as a dedicated, honest, and innovative personality, equally congratulated staff, students, and all ABU alumni on the choice of Ahmed as the Vice-Chancellor.

Sagir praised the university for its academic excellence, saying its tremendous contributions to the development of Nigeria were remarkable.

He said there had been a good working relationship between the university and journalists in Zaria and that the union was looking forward to a more productive relationship.

The NUJ chair also said they would continue to discharge their responsibilities professionally in promoting the academic activities of the university.

“Essentially, this visit is to foster the long standing ties between the university and the union with a view to improving its coverage”, Sagir said.

He introduced the leadership of the union which according to him had a total of 23 members covering activities in eight local government areas of Kaduna Zone One.

The NUJ chair, who stressed the need for training and retraining of journalists, urged the university to be organising training for their members to further sharpen their skills.

Ahmed, who explained that the institution’s global ranking had significantly improved, said that this year’s JAMB Mega prize of N500 million went to Ahmadu Bello University.

On the request for training for the journalists, the Vice-Chancellor asked the union to formally write the university on the type of training its members would require.
