Nigeria Immigration Service visits ABU for collaboration

  • To ensure seamless operations for international students, lecturers, and other staff of the institution

The Comptroller for Kaduna State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Sani Aliyu Ambursa, has visited Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to discuss and explore areas of mutual benefit for both organizations.

Comptroller Ambursa, who led an eight-member delegation to the citadel of learning on Tuesday, 13th August, 2024, explained that the visit was to foster a stronger relationship between the University and the Immigration Service.

Ambursa told the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, when the delegation called on him in his office that the visit was also an opportunity for both organisaitons to discuss a number of areas for collaboration in order to ensure smooth and seamless operations for international students, lecturers and other staff of the University.

The Comptroller of Immigration Service, who expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for granting the Command the audience for the discussion, further said that they were eager to learn more about the University’s internationalisation policy, goals, and how the Nigeria Immigration Service could support the institution.

Some of the areas of collaboration discussed during the visit to the University by the officials of the Immigration Service included update of biodata of all foreign staff and students as well as conducting of mandatory e-migrant registration exercise for all foreign staff and students.

Other areas centered on supporting the University’s international recruitment efforts in line with the international standards as well as guidance for the issuance of official passport and ease of issuance of and re-issue of Nigeria International passports.

Receiving the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, commended the Comptroller’s efforts in streamlining immigration process for staff and students while providing guidance on immigration regulations and compliance.

While calling on the Comptroller to enhance security and safety protocols for international students and staff during passages in and out of the country, the Vice-Chancellor also urged the Immigration Command to look into the abolishing of visa for students from Niger, Chad and Cameroon due to their proximity to Nigeria.

The Comptroller was accompanied on the visit to ABU, by ACI Investigation, ACI Areas Office, Zaria, ACI Operations, ACI, ECOWAS, PRO, Kaduna Command, and others.

The Vice-Chancellor was assisted in receiving the delegation by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond Bako; Registrar, Mal. Rabiu Samaila; Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Mal. Auwalu Umar; Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Sahalu Junaidu and Head, Department of Polymer and Textile Engineering, Prof. Buhari Muhammadu.

They also included Principal Investigator, Paul & Mary Achimugu Professorial Chair in Polymer and Textile Engineering, Prof. Abdullahi Danladi; Ag. Chief Security, Malam Ashiru T. Zango, and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwal Y. Mohammed.
