NAPRI begins training for NiMet’s 16 personnel on climate smart livestock system

A one-week training for 16 personnel of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) began today (Monday, 2nd December, 2024) at the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The training, which is essentially on climate smart livestock productivity and resilience systems, is being handled by specialists at NAPRI.

Declaring open the one-week training session, the Executive Director, National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI), Prof Muhammad Rabiu Hassan, emphasized that the “training is a collaborative one”.

Prof Hassan explained that NAPRI and NiMet are partners in progress and that NiMet’s predictions have always been helpful to the institute in planning.

“Through NiMet predictions NAPRI has been able to succeed in most of its activities such as animal breeding, pasture planting, harvesting and storage as well as many other things”, he said.

In his remarks, Malam Haruna Zakari, the General Manager of Agromet and Technical Assistant to the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, expressed gratitude to NAPRI for opening its doors for collaboration.

Zakari stressed that NAPRI remains one of the NiMet’s most cherished partners in progress.

“The Nigerian Meteorological Agency is still seeking further collaborations with the National Animal Production Research Institute. So the institute should come up with a Memorandum of Understanding to that effect”, he also said.

To the participants, Malam Zakari urged the trainees to pay attention to the training and take the various opportunities it presents.
