Livestock Development Ministry, NAPRI need each other to survive, says Presidential aide
The Senior Special Assistant to President (SSA) Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Livestock Development, Alhaji Idris Ajimobi, says Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) need each other to survive.
Ajimobi disclosed this on Thursday, 5th February, 2026 when he called on the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed.
The SSA explained that he had long wanted to visit the University for institutional alignment.
Ajimobi explained that he had been to many institutions in the country, but very few are maintained and taken care of like ABU.
He described his visit to ABU as “impressive”, acknowledging that ABU had a historical value in veterinary and agricultural development.
According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was blessed through the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development.
Ajimobi emphasized that the administration was committed to the success of NAPRI, stressing that there was no better institution to carryout the task than ABU, and NAPRI in particular.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, appreciated Ajimobi for the visit.
Prof Ahmed, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, thanked President Tinubu for his continued interest in NAPRI.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the President’s continued interest in livestock development was evident by the visit of the Minister of Livestock Development Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha some weeks back.
Prof Ahmed appealed for support from the ministry in the area of capacity building for young scientists at NAPRI.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the University was fully aware of the mandates for the establishment of NAPRI and would ensure that, that was achieved.
He reaffirmed that the University was grateful for the interest the Federal Government had continued to show in NAPRI.
Those who supported the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the guests were Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Raymond Bako; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi; and Registrar, Rabiu Samaila.
Others were Ag. Director NAPRI, Prof Mohammed Rabiu Hassan; Deputy Director NAPRI, Dr Muhammad Saidu Tanko; and Ag. Assistant Director NAPRI, Prof Martha Otu.
They also included Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof S B Abdu; Prof J K Kwaga; Prof E K Sackey; and Prof Muhammad Kabir Junaid.
