International Studies Alumni Association awards scholarship to 24 ABU students

The International Studies Alumni Association has awarded scholarships to 24 students of the Department of Political Science and International Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

President of the association, Ambassador Muntari Abdu Kaita, disclosed this when he and other members of the executive council paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala.

Ambassador Kaita appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the support given to the association, stressing that whatever they achieved was because of the enormous support they enjoyed from the him.

The President also commended the Vice-Chancellor for the successes recorded since his assumption of office despite the critical challenges of electricity bills and other problems faced by the University.

He intimated the Vice-Chancellor on the progress made on the renovation of the e-Library at the Department of Political Science and International Studies.

Kaita expressed optimism that it would be completed before the end of this month for it to be commissioned before leaving as the Vice-Chancellor.

He said the association was planning a symposium in September this year in honour of former Deans of the defunct Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Ambassador Kaita condoled with the Vice-Chancellor and the University Community over the demise of the Deputy Registrar Alumni relations, Malam Bashir Munnir.

He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their unwavering support towards the success of the activities of the association.

Responding, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, lauded the association for being one of the most active on campus.

Prof. Bala emphasized that since his contact with the association, they had been very serious and objective in their affairs.

Prof. Bala expressed gratitude to the association for renovating the departmental library, describing the gesture as commendable.

He maintained that the forthcoming symposium of the association was a welcome development.

This, according to him, underscored that the then Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences was the centre of attraction in ABU, which had shaped so many discussions and government policies.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the association for giving back to the University and urged other alumni groups to emulate them.

Those, who supported the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the association, included Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Raymond B Bako; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi; Representative of the Registrar; Malam Ishaq Murtala and Ag. University Librarian, Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed.

Others were Director, Directorate of Advancement and International Education, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu Mni; Head, Department of Political Science and International Studies, Dr. M.L Tafida; Coordinator Gender Policy Unit, Prof. Rahanatu Lawal; Prof. Kayode Omojuwa; Dr. Idris Saminu; and the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwal Yusuf, among others.
