GQAA lauds ABU for not limiting staff training to only academics
The Director, Global Quality Assurance Association (GQAA), Dr Violet Makuku, has commended Ahmadu Bello University for its magnanimity to provide training opportunities for all arms of the university.
Speaking at a workshop on quality assurance in higher education holding in Accra in Ghana, Dr Makuku explained that this would greatly add value to the teaching, learning, and research.
The three-day workshop, ‘Quality Assurance in Higher and Tertiary Education Leadership and Management, Blended Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation’, is organised by the Global Quality Assurance Association (GQAA).










Dr Makuku, an educationist and a quality assurance specialist, said it was a thing of joy to see registry and bursary staff also participating in a quality assurance training.
She said training workshops for staff of tertiary institutions should not be limited to only academics as every staff is important in the service delivery.
In his remarks at the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabiru Bala, described the training as “refreshing”.
Prof Bala also said that university personnel should be having more of this interaction for value addition.
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako, thanked the facilitator and her team for the “excellent” presentation.
Prof Bako, who is also the Centre Leader, Africa Centre of Excellence on New Pedagogies in Engineering Education (ACENPEE), assured that ABU participants would share their experience with their colleagues when they go back.
Some of the presentations so far made at the ongoing training workshop were on global understanding of quality assurance for maximum benefits, building the quality culture and continuous improvement as well as the learner-centred teaching and learning approach.
The Bursary, Malam Muhammad Bello Aminu Gurin; Dean of Engineering, Prof A I M Dabo; Dean of Education, Prof H I Bayero are among the participants from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
