Evaluating white paper implementation of varsities’ visitation panel report a healthy exercise, says ABU Vice-Chancellor
The ongoing evaluation of the level of compliance with white paper report on the visitation panel into the affairs of federal universities and inter-university centres in Nigeria remained a healthy exercise, according to the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Adamu Ahmed.
Receiving a three-member team sent to Ahmadu Bello University by the Federal Ministry of Education to monitor the level of compliance with the white paper on the last visitation panel report (2011 – 2015 and 2016 – 2020), Prof. Ahmed also said the exercise was important to the university system.

Members of the team led by Mrs. P.I. Duru, a Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, were in the university for the exercise from Thursday, 19th to Saturday, 21st 2025. Other members were Buhari Sani, an Assistant Director, and Mrs. H.C. Obidiegwu, who served as Secretary for the team.
The Vice-Chancellor, who expressed appreciation to the team for the courtesy visit to him before the start of their assignment, explained that universities were fully aware of the implications for not complying with directives in respect of the white paper report.
Prof. Ahmed commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, for raising the team to inquire into the level of implementation of the white paper on the last visitation panel report on the university.
Ahmed, who described Ahmadu Bello University as a big institution that required a lot of funding and reform, further said the university would continue to do its best to comply with the directives as contained in the white paper and rely on the team’s advice.
Earlier, the team leader, Mrs. P.I. Duru, told the Vice-Chancellor the purpose of their visit to the university, saying that they were to evaluate the level of compliance in respect of the visitation panel’s white paper implementation.
“Whatever we gathered will help us compile an evidence-based report for onward transmission to the Visitor; and this is in preparation for another visitation panel next year”, she said.
The team studied areas concerning the institution’s budgetary management, audit and retirements by donor agencies using a template designed specifically for such evaluation.
Some principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, assisted the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the team.
Others present at the courtesy call were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Aliyu Sanusi Rafindadi and the Bursar, Malam Aminu Muhammad Bello Gurin.
