Dr AbdulKarim Adamu Biu replaces Prof Shika as DSS Principal
Dr AbdulKarim Adamu Biu of the Institute of Education has taken over from Prof Abubakar Ismaila Shika as Principal of Demonstration Secondary School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Prof. Shika, whose tenure elapsed on Friday 28th February, 2025 handed over to Dr Biu.
Speaking at a brief handing-over ceremony, Prof Shika stated that the choice of the new Principal was not by accident, as he had taught in the school for 15 years before leaving for Institute of Education.
Prof Shika described his tenure as successful, stressing that there was no any record of litigation.
The outgoing Principal craved support for the incoming Principal from both staff and students.
He said that if given the necessary support, the school would continue to reclaim its past glory of being one of the best in the country.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for giving him the opportunity to contribute his own quota towards the development of the school.
In an inaugural speech, the new Principal, Dr AbdulKarim Adamu Biu, appealed for support from all staff and students, reiterating that Demonstration Secondary School is one of the best in the country.
Dr. Biu enjoined all staff to inculcate the habit of discipline, by being punctual to classes, saying that he served in the school for 15 years and had never been found wanting.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for the confidence reposed in him to steer the affairs of the school.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Parents, Teachers Association (PTA), Prof Muhammad Kabir, congratulated the outgoing Principal on serving the school diligently.
Prof. Kabir, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of Jewel University, Gombe State, said the outgoing Principal had succeeded in setting standards by moving the school from one stage to another.
He said the PTA had enjoyed a good working relationship under Prof. Shika and hoped that it would be maintained.
Prof. Kabir wished the outgoing Principal well in his future endeavors and implored the new Principal to carry all teachers, co-workers, friends and subordinates along for him to succeed.
On his part, the Vice Principal Administration of Demonstration Secondary School, Malam Gimba Alfa, called on the new Principal to hold frequent meetings with year group tutors and take daily reports.
Malam Alfa said the task of running a school is challenging, therefore, it is very important that one seeks Allah’s guidance in discharging his duties.
He said when one works tediously and sincerely, God will elevate him.
