Divide between military and civilians must be closed out, says Chief of Defence Staff
Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Gwabin Musa says the divide between the military and civilians in Nigeria must be closed out in the interest of the nation.
General Musa, who spoke at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria today when he called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, said that if the civilians were not comfortable with the military, then the Nigerian armed forces were not doing anything.
The Chief of Defence Staff came to the University to deliver a paper at a one-day Dialogue this evening organised by the Institute for Development Research and Training (IDR&T), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
General Musa, who will speak on the security situation in Northern Nigeria, stressed that he was excited to be invited by the University to make the presentation.
He said that Ahmadu Bello University was his first choice for a degree programme soon after completion of secondary education at the Federal Government College, Sokoto but ended up at Obafemi Owolowo University, Ife.
The general, who extended the greetings of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the University, further said that he loved ABU then for its formidable basketball team, serene environment and academic excellence.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, stressed that the University was most delighted to receive the top Nigeria’s Military Commander.
He said that the University had a very close relationship with the military during the Murtala/Obasanjo military administration in the 1970s when many government policies were baked in ABU, Zaria.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed delight over the Chief of Defence Staff’s readiness to end the divide between the military and civilians in Nigeria.
General Musa was in company of Major-General I.M. Abdullahi, Brig. Gen. Y. Ali, Brig. Gen. O.M. Azuikpe and Major N. Ohinma.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Bursar, Malam Muhammad Bello Gurin; Director, Directorate of Advancement and International Education, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu; Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Malam Auwalu Umar; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwal Y. Mohammed assisted the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the Chief of Defence Staff.
