Department of Technical Cooperation commends ABU for significantly contributing to body of science

The Division for Africa, Department of Technical Cooperation has commended Ahmadu Bello University for its academic standing in teaching and research.

Mr. Gashaw Gebeyehu Wolde, the Department’s Ag. Director, made the commendation when he called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, in Zaria today – Tuesday, 21st October, 2025.

Wolde also appreciated the university for significantly contributing to the body of science.

He further acknowledged the role and position the university attained in teaching and research in Nigeria and Africa.

The Department’s Ag. Director thanked management of the university for the warm reception accorded him and members of his team,

Mr. Wolde said he looked forward to seeing more significant research works by the university for the betterment of Nigeria and Africa.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, was delighted to receive the team led by Mr. Gashaw Gebeyehu Wolde.

Prof Ahmed, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, recalled some of the handsome interventions the university received from regional and international agencies.

He said the International Energy Agency (IEA) supported NAPRI, CERT, and ABUTH through various collaboration and partnerships

The Vice-Chancellor said the IEA further supported CERT in establishing Internet Reactor Lab, Nuclear Risk Security Teaching Lab, Climate Smart Agriculture, and Soil Facility Mapping.

These projects, according to the Vice-Chancellor, aimed at enhancing food security in Nigeria.

Prof Ahmed appealed to IEA to continue to support CERT, given that the centre was the only one in Nigeria dealing in nuclear research activities.

Ahmed thanked the agency for appreciating ABU for its outstanding academic activities, especially in the area of teaching and research.

The visiting Ag Director, Africa Department of Technical Cooperation, Mr. Gashaw Gebeyehu Wolde, was accompanied by Mr. Mickel Edward, the Head, Section 1 in the Africa Department.

Others were Mr. Awwal Bisallah, Deputy Director and Head, International Cooperation Department in the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission; and Mr. Musa Omuya, Assistant General Manager, Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

The Vice-Chancellor was assisted in receiving the guests by the Registrar, Rabiu Samaila, represented by Ag. Director, Human Resources, Yakubu A. Anivbassa; and the Ag. University Librarian, Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed.

The Director, Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT), Prof S A Jonah, led the guests to the office of the Vice-Chancellor for the courtesy call.

Prof Jonah was accompanied by former Director, CERT, Prof. I M Umar; Head, Material Science, Prof. G I Balogun; Head, Engineering, A M Alhassan; and Head, ICT Unit, Prof Y B Ibrahim.

They also included Finance Officer, I S Yunusa; and Assistant Admin Secretary, Mrs. S Dewu.
