C’ttee raised to address ABU’s increasing energy expenses
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has inaugurated an Energy Audit and Reform Committee to address the institution’s increasing energy expenses.
Prof Ahmed announced the committee’s formation during its inauguration today, Monday, 26th May, 2025.
The Vice-Chancellor revealed that the University received its highest-ever energy bill last month.
He said that the committee’s work was urgent and critical to ABU’s financial sustainability. Ahmed pledged full administrative support to the team.
Chaired by Prof O O Okubanjo of the Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology, the seven – member committee was mandated to conduct a comprehensive audit of energy consumption patterns.
It was also charged to identify inefficiencies, theft, and billing system vulnerabilities, as well as recommend cost-saving measures and system upgrades.
The committee was equally mandated to develop a framework for ongoing energy management.
The team was given four weeks within which to submit its findings and recommendations.
Accepting the appointment, Prof Okubanjo assured the University of a thorough investigation as the committee would propose practical solutions to curb energy waste and reduce costs.
Members of the committee consist of experts from ICT, finance, and physics. An external energy consultant would be appointed to join the committee.
