Caribbean scholar visits ABU, calls on Vice-Chancellor
A Caribbean scholar, Prof. Chris Ogunsalo, has visited Ahmadu Bello University where he paid a courtesy call on Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.
Prof. Ogunsalo was received at the Vice-Chancellor’s office today (Monday, 5th May, 2025).
Prof Ogunsalo, who teaches at the University of West Indies in the Caribbean, described ABU’s Faculty of Dentistry building as ‘robust’ capable of housing all that was needed.
Ogunsalo, who came to the university as a visiting lecturer at College of Medical sciences, said that the new structure had the potential to be the best in Nigeria.
He also said that he had developed a module to teach oral biology, oral medicine, oral anatomy and oral maxillofacial anatomy with the aim to make them outstanding from all dental students that have graduated from Nigerian Universities.
The medical expert pledged to assist oral and maxillofacial anatomy in ABU to have postgraduate programmes so that other universities could send their students for postgraduate programmes.
He urged the University Management to assist the Faculty of Dentistry to set up an implantology centre, which he pledged to assist with some equipment to kickstart it.
According to him, the implantology centre could finance the entire faculty.
Prof. Ogunsalo called for the revolutionising of teaching, especially in the medical profession, by using virtual platforms.
Responding, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, thanked the guest lecturer for finding ABU worthy of extending his scholarship.
He assured Prof Ogunsalo of the University’s commitment to close the gaps by facilitating all necessary interventions.
The Vice-Chancellor lauded the guest lecturer’s financial sustainability plans for not only the Faculty of Dentistry, but also the University as a whole.
Prof. Ahmed appreciated him for the kind gesture, describing it as “best of its kind”.
The Vice-Chancellor was supported in receiving the visiting scholar by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Raymond Bako; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi.
Others were representative of the Registrar, Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia; representative of the Bursar, Malam Garba Shehu; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwal Yusuf Mohammed, among others.
