Bauchi Land Commissioner seeks partnership with ABU on regional development plan

The Hon Commissioner of Land and Housing, Bauchi State, TPL Abdullahi Gwaram, has called on the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed.

TPL Gwaram came along with the Director General, Bauchi State Geographic Information System, TPL Yahaya Yusuf.

The two top government functionaries were received at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room on Thursday, 6th November, 2025.

Briefing the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of the visit, Gwaram said they were at university on the directives of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State.

The Commissioner, an alumnus of the university, said based on the futuristic thought of Governor Bala Mohammed they intended to have a regional development plan for Bauchi State.

He also explained that they felt ABU was the right place for collaboration due to the availability of experts in the university.

Gwaram further said the governor had been pursuing development plan in the state since he came to power, saying that there was the need for him to be guided.

He said instead of placing advertorials on newspapers, they decided to come to ABU, because they believed the university had the intellectual capacity to actualize the plan.

Gwaram said the governor had succeeded in executing over 75 percent of his budget and called on the University Management to support the regional development plan.

Being a member of the School of Basic Studies (SBS) Class of 1976, Gwaram remembered with nostalgia their old days on campus, describing his visit as homecoming.

Gwaram appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception accorded them.

Responding, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, thanked the Commissioner and the Director General for the visit.

Prof Ahmed noted that it was an exciting moment receiving two distinguished alumni and most outstanding public officers he had worked with when he was a member of Bauchi State Executive Council.

The Vice-Chancellor said he established good rapport with them when he was Bauchi State Commissioner of Land and Housing and that he used to consult with them for advice.

He described them as men of integrity who were very principled and highly disciplined.

Prof Ahmed maintained that Governor Bala was a visionary and exemplary leader who needs to be supported.

He said Governor Bala, though not an alumnus of ABU, had so much respect for the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the Hon Commissioner and the Director General that the university would deliver well.

He appreciated them for the visit and wished them journey mercies back to their destination.
