At Japan conference, ABU makes presentation on its contributions to national, regional and global developments
Ahmadu Bello University has made a presentation on its contributions to national, regional, and global developments at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) at Yokohama in Japan.
The event took place from 20th – 22nd August, 2025
The Nigerian public university and the University of Ghana were the only two institutions of higher learning from West Africa selected by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) to attend the conference.

Their selection for participation at the conference was largely on account of university ranking and extent of collaboration with the Japanese institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, represented Ahmadu Bello University at the three – day event at which he made a presentation on the university’s academic standing.
He highlighted its contributions to national, regional, and global developments in manpower, agriculture and nutrition, education, engineering, and the sciences.
Prof Ahmed also made a strong submission for collaborations with various Japanese institutions on eight key areas.
These include joint undergraduate degree programmes, bi-directional faculty and student exchanges as well as faculty/student exchange and joint teaching and supervision.
Others are joint research and grant sourcing; establishment of laboratory for pandemic preparedness; and disaster preparedness and management.
They also include alternative energy and climate change as well as support for patents-to-products initiative.
Several Japanese universities soon indicated interests for collaborations with ABU on the areas highlighted by the Vice-Chancellor in his presentation.
Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) was established as a triennial international conference on African development by the Japanese Government since 1993.
