At 56th SAN Conference, ABU’s Ameh, Maryam, Giwa inducted as Science Association of Nigeria fellows
Prof. Danladi A. Ameh, Prof. Maryam Aminu, and Prof. Abdulraheem Giwa, all of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, were last week inducted as fellows of the Science Association of Nigeria (SAN).
Prof. Ameh, a distinguished scientist, teaches at the Department of Biochemistry. He was Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 2019-2023.
Maryam, who is currently the Dean of Life Sciences, was the Head of Department of Microbiology, while Giwa teaches at the Department of Textile and Polymer Engineering, where he was once the Head of Department.
Inducting the scholars along with other deserving individuals at the 56th Conference of the Science Association of Nigeria (SAN) at the Federal University, Lokoja, the outgone President of the Association, Prof. Abba Hamza, encouraged the newly inducted fellows to continue to give their exceptional contributions to the association.
The conference, which was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, was rounded off with the Annual General Meeting, at which new leadership of the association emerged.
University of Ibadan’s Prof. A.A. Ogunjobi took over from Prof. Abba Hamza of the Department of Chemistry, Ahmadu Bello University, as the new President of the Science Association of Nigeria (SAN).
The Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Maryam Aminu, was elected as the Vice-President of the association.
Similarly, Ahmadu Bello University’s Prof. Abdulraheem Giwa, Prof. Yakubu Obadaki, and Prof. Hafsat Ronke Saliu, were reelected to the SAN Council.
New SAN Council members also from Ahmadu Bello University, including Dr. Habiba Ilyasu Atta, Department of Microbiology; Dr. Abdulhamid B. Ibrahim, Department of Zoology; and Dr. George Y. Sambo, Department of Botany, were equally inducted.
Highpoint of the conference was the keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Abubakar A. Sambo, on the theme, ‘Science and Technology in Promoting Energy Mix and Food Security for National Development’.
