As custodian of university regulations, you must change your attitude to work, ABU Registrar urges staff

The Registrar of Ahmadu Bello University, Rabiu Samaila, has enjoined staff of the institution’s Registry Department to change their attitude to work being the custodians of the university regulations.

Samaila, who spoke at a meeting with administrative staff of the institution at ABU Senate Chamber yesterday, also urged the staff to show good examples by coming to work early as contained in the scheme of work.

The Registrar, however, expressed satisfaction that some of the registry staff were committed in their respective duties and urged others not doing well to buckle up.

Samaila also said that it was a thing of joy for ABU having a number of experienced administrative staff, as some of them served as registrars in other universities and many others were still serving in top administrative positions in higher institutions of learning.

The Registrar commended the recent efforts of the university management in reviewing most of the university governance documents and other policies.

He cited the university statutes which had not been reviewed since the establishment of the university untill now.

Samaila urged all staff to read, follow and utilise such reviewed documents.

He said that hard copies of the documents were being distributed, while e-copies were already on the university website for easy access.

The Registrar also stressed the need for computerization of registry operations and urged all members of the registry to be computer literate for effective discharge of all administrative functions.

Earlier In his remarks, the Ahmadu Bello University Branch Chairman, Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Malam Bashir Abubakar, explained that ANUPA was a professional body saddled with the responsibility of training its members.

Abubakar is a Deputy Registrar and College Secretary, College of Medical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Part of ANUPA’s mandate, according to him, was organising lectures and training for both administrative and executive cadres on the best and global practices of university administration.

He appealed to members to key in and cooperate with branch executives to succeed in the new drive.
