Agriculture Minister tasks newly inducted ABU-trained veterinary doctors on professionalism

The Hon. Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Sabi A. Abdullahi, has enjoined the newly inducted ABU-trained veterinary doctors to always regard their practice as a selfless service to humanity.

Speaking at the induction of 103 veterinary doctors of Ahmadu Bello University, held today (Saturday, 15th February, 2025) at Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre, the Minister also urged them to remain professional in the discharge of their duties.

“Distinguished inductees, today you join a noble profession that sits at the intersection of science, service and sustainability. As veterinarians you are not just caregivers to animals, rather stewards of food security, economic development and public health”, he said.

He challenged them to think beyond the traditional role of a veterinarian, seek knowledge to embrace collaboration and develop the industry, skills that would set them apart as innovators, leaders and solution providers.

The Minister maintained that as inductees they were not just stepping into a profession, rather into a purpose-driven career that holds profound significance for food security, public health and national economic development.

Sabi added that the veterinary profession is a critical pillar in Nigeria’s drive towards a resilient agricultural system.

The Minister encouraged the veterinary surgeons to seek interdisciplinary collaboration, because veterinary sector thrives when efforts are integrated across different sectors – education, trade and technology.

He also reminded them to seek and develop requisite industry skills that will distinguish them as leaders in the field, cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset to recognize that veterinary practice is not just a profession, but also a business.

The Minister emphasized on leadership and teamwork, as veterinary field demands collaborations across multiple sectors to achieve sustainable and impactful solutions.
