ABU’s theatre students honour visiting Veterinary Medicine Class of ’82 with drama
Postgraduate students of Ahmadu Bello University’s Department of Theatre and Performing Arts last night organised a drama in honour of the visiting veterinary medicine Class of ’82 that came to appreciate the University having been instrumental to their individual accomplishments.
The drama, titled ‘The Missing Face’, was put together by the Department’s Masters students who also coopted some undergraduate students to stage the 45-minutes drama which was held at the University Drama Village.
The play dratimatised the lives of Africans living in the diaspora since slave trade time, portraying their challenges and experiences. In a nutshell, the drama depicted a woman’s endless search for her fatherland with the hope of reuniting with her family in Africa.
The Director, Directorate of University Advancement and International Education (DUA & IE), Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu, mni, and some senior academic staff of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, including the Deputy Dean, Prof. Mohammed Aliyu Wakawa; the Faculty Advancement Officer, Prof. Mohammed Hadi Suleiman; and the Director, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Prof. Sani Adamu, led members of the class to the Drama Village.
The visiting team, led by the retired Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, Dr. Gideon Mshelbwala, visibly showed excitement over the drama entertainment organised in their honour at the instance of the University Management.
On arrival in the University on Wednesday, 6th March, 2024, the visiting 11-member team first met with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, at the University Assembly Hall, where they had a group photograph with him.
Soon after they paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor on Thursday, 7th March, 2024, they were taken round some key places within the University, including the Directorate of University Advancement and International Education (DUA & IE). At DUA & IE, for example, they interacted with the staff of the Directorate, with the Director, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu, chairing the interaction.
They also had separate interactive sessions with academic staff and students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine where they graduated in 1982. And they rounded off the visit early today (Friday, 8th March, 2024).
