ABU’s Prof Umar-Buratai is Fellow of Nigerian Academy of Letters
Prof Mohammed Inuwa Umar-Buratai was among the eminent personalities inducted recently into the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL).
Umar-Buratai was inducted as a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) at a ceremony in Lagos on 14th August, 2025.
A former Head of Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, Ahmadu Bello University, Umar-Buratai was also Dean, Faculty of Arts.


The Senate of Ahmadu Bello University congratulated him at its 553rd (Regular) meeting held on Thursday, 28th August, 2025.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, who announced the feat in his report to the Senate at the meeting, congratulated Umar-Buratai on what he described as “tremendous attainment and recognition”.
Prof Ahmed also congratulated the distinguished scholar in a letter to him on behalf of ABU Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff, and ABU alumni on becoming a fellow of the Academy.
“This fellowship is clearly in recognition of your outstanding contributions to the arts as well as a challenge for you to continue to offer your best to the department, the faculty, the university, the whole country, and to humanity at large,” he said.
Prof Umar-Buratai, who is a professor of cultural studies, theatre and performing arts, is also a fellow of Security Institute (fsi).
