ABU’s IAIICT organises orientation programme for new Diploma students
Iya Abubakar Institute of ICT, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has organised an orientation programme for the newly admitted 2025/2026 Diploma students.
The orientation programme took place on Thursday, 12th February, 2026, at Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the Institute, Prof E A Adedokun, congratulated the students for securing admission into the Institute.
Represented by the Deputy Director, Dr B H Sani, the Director disclosed that the institute used to run short courses, but later introduced diploma programmes.
The Director assured the new students of the institute’s commitment to ensuring that they had a hitch free academic programme.
In a remark, the Head of ETU, Dr Mrs Odengele, stated that the programmes were designed to produce skilled and knowledgeable job seekers in the country.
Dr Odengele noted that their doors were always opened for any student who needs any assistance.
Speaking on examination rules and regulations, malpractice, resits and maximum residency, the institute examination officer, Kamal Mahmud, explained that having the knowledge of what Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is very significant to all students.
Kamal emphasized that not having a better understanding of CGPA contribute immensely to the failure of some students.
Speaking on students’ issues and campus life, the Dean, Students Affairs Division, Prof Sahalu Junaidu, enjoined the students to be good ambassadors of their parents.
Represented by the Assistant Dean Female, Main Campus, Prof Halima Mahmud, the Dean affirmed that the University Management does not condone indecency.
Delivering a talk on general wellbeing of students, the Director, Counseling and Human Development Centre, Prof Hadiza Ahmed Tukur, urged the new students to always visit the Centre each time they have any problem.
Prof Hadiza was represented by Malam Ibrahim Usman.
In another talk on medical issues and facilities available, the Director, University Health Services, Prof Mohammed Dauda Maigatari, called on the new students to take advantage of the medical facilities available whenever any of them fall sick.
Prof Maigatari, who was represented by Dr Chukwumerije Ochetachi, explained that the University Medical Centre operates 24 hours, including weekends for effective service delivery.
Speaking on security matters and compliance, the Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T Zango, advised the students to shun cultism and drug abuse
Represented by Cyprian Idache, the Chief Security Officer reiterated that the University had zero tolerance for cultism and drug abuse.
In vote of thanks, the Institute Secretary, Malam Usman Shehu Lawal, appreciated all the resource persons for availing themselves for the programme.
Lawal maintained that the Institute would continue to support the academic progress of the students.
