ABU ZARIA WINS AWARDS AT THE HAINA ACADEMY & INSTRUCTORS FORUM IN CHINA

The Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals was officially declared open today (Saturday, 25 May 2019) with an impressive opening ceremony at the Huawei Executive Training Centre (13) in Shenzhen, China. The two teams from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, representing Africa in the Network Services Track (Team A: Mohammed Mustapha Maihaja (400L Computer Engineering), Fahad Danladi (500L Computer Engineering) and Abdulqadir Babagana Musa (500L Electrical Engineering) and Cloud Services (Team B: Abdulqudus Temidayo Adebayo (400L Communications Engineering), Shuaibu Usman Abbas (400L Computer Science Education) and Kamaludeen Umar 500L Electrical Engineering) were led to the ceremony by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba.

The opening ceremony was immediately followed by two sessions concurrently:

The competition, involving 49 teams from countries across the globe in three categories: Network Services, Cloud Services and Innovation. The competition is an 8-hour behind closed-door demonstration of skills and knowledge in solving a real-life enterprise network routing and switching problem starting with topology set-up using real devices (Network Services) and real-life enterprise cloud services problem starting with topology set-up but using web interface (Cloud Services). The Innovation track is an ideas competition based on AI/IoT.

The HAINA Academy and Instructors forum, which had a presentations’ session/workshop and an awards ceremony. The ABU-HAINA lead Instructor, Engr. B. H. Sani (Head of NIS Unit, ICICT) made a presentation titled “Huawei ICT Academy Operations: Teaching & Certification”. During the awards ceremony, ABU Zaria won the “Excellent Academy” award. The trophy, plaque and certificate were collected on behalf of the University by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba. Two instructors from the ABU-HAINA, Dr. B. O. Sadiq (Computer Engineering) and Amin Nasir Lawal (NIS/ICICT) won awards as “Best Instructors”

The closing ceremony and awards ceremony for the ICT Skills Competition Global Finals will take place on Sunday 26 May 2019.

NB: As of the time of this update, the students were still in the competition hall.
