ABU, QSRBN sign pact on research in Quantity Surveying
Ahmadu Bello University has signed a pact with Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) on research collaboration to deepen knowledge base that will enhance the teaching and practice of quantity surveying profession to meet global standards.
QSRBN is a government regulatory body of the Quantity Surveying Profession and Practice in Nigeria established by Decree No.31 of December 5, 1986, now CAP Q1 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN-2004).
The collaborative arrangement between ABU and QSRBN also seeks to encourage purposeful research that will proactively converge theory with practice and in complementary manner to the benefit of the society.
The parties further agree that the pact creates a non-binding framework of cooperation to facilitate the collaboration on researches based on the policy already developed by the Board.
All the collaborative agreements are captured in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria today.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, signed on behalf of the University, while President of Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria, Malam Murtala Aliyu, stood in for the Board.
Signing the legal document, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, described the Memorandum of Understanding as “very important” because the University’s products always go to the industry after graduation.
Prof. Bala also noted that the collaborative arrangement with the Board would significantly help the university update its curricula in tune with the reality.
“We need to do a lot of collaborations with the industry in terms of research, teaching and learning because of the changing times”, he stressed.
Earlier in his remarks, the President, Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN), Malam Murtala Aliyu, explained that their coming to ABU for the MoU signing was a follow up to their earlier visit to the University for the collaboration.
Aliyu, Matawallen Gombe and former Minister of State for Power and Steel, said that the Board had decided to enter into collaboration with some Nigerian universities to enhance the teaching and practice of Quantity Surveying profession.
Aliyu also said that for now, the Board had started collaboration with Ahmadu Bello University and Obafemi Awolowo University.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim and the Director, Directorate of University Advancement, witnessed the brief MoU signing ceremony.
The QSRBN President was accompanied to the event by the Registrar of the Board, QS Abdullahi U. Alkali; Head, Research and Development, QSRBN, QS (Dr.) James Etim, and other Board members that included Prof. Yahaya Makarfi Ibrahim, and QS Hauwa M. Audi.
