ABU Management holds valedictory session for outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof A D Ibrahim

The Management of Ahmadu Bello University today held a valedictory session for the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, whose tenure will come to an end on Sunday, 31st August, 2025.
Members of the University Management took turns to pour encomiums on the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor, whom they immensely appreciated for his unwavering commitment to the cause of the university.




The brief event took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room on Tuesday, 26th August, 2025.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, who presided over the valedictory meeting, paid a glowing tribute to Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim.
Prof Ahmed described Doko as the “most impactful” Deputy Vice-Chancellor the university ever had in recent time.
The Vice-Chancellor also said Doko’s counselling and guidance as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, were indeed remarkable.
“Doko’s attitude and commitment to duty are quite exemplary; he is the type who would not spare anything when you seek his advice”, the Vice-Chancellor said.
Prof Ahmed also said at every given opportunity he used to cite as an example Prof Doko’s institutional memory, saying the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor was instrumental to the seamless transition that led to his assumption of office as ABU Vice-Chancellor.
“I really found Doko tremendously supportive in the last few months I assumed office as Vice-Chancellor.
“I relied a lot on him as he carried me along in addition to providing me with full guidance during the transition”, he further said.
The Vice-Chancellor, who extolled Prof Doko’s academic and administrative capacity, expressed gratitude to God as he was leaving office in good health and spirit.
Ahmed stressed that his administration would not relent in tapping from Doko’s experience as the university would continue to give him assignments.
In his remarks, the Dean of Students, Prof Sahalu B Junaidu, said he knew Prof Doko as somebody who always set a record wherever worked.
Prof Junaidu disclosed that Doko set a record as a student when he was in the United Kingdom for a doctorate degree.
He described as meritoriously Doko’s tenures at ABUCONS and the Directorate of University Advancement, where he served diligently as Managing Director and Director, respectively.
For the Provost, College of Medical Sciences, Prof M S Shehu, the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor was somebody who had a strong passion for ABU.
He recalled that Doko was instrumental to the building of the imposing structure presently housing the Faculty of Allied Sciences at the College of Medical Sciences.
In her remarks, the Director, Directorate of Research and Innovation, Prof J J Maina, who described Doko as her mentor, said the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor never allowed sentiments to becloud his sense of judgement.
The University Bursar, Malam Aminu Muhammad Bello Gurin spoke on Doko’s maturity, saying he had learned a lot while working with him.
Responding, the outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, said for him, he always tried to be honest with himself.
Doko explained that upon completion of his undergraduate degree he had no intention of working for the government as his plan then was to join the private sector.
“But as destiny would have it, I eventually found myself in ABU and so I decided to work sincerely for the university.
“I really enjoy my stay in ABU; I always like to be honest with myself; and I sleep deeply and wake up without any hangover”, he said.
Prof Doko thanked the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the University Management for the kind words.
He finally sought the forgiveness of all those he worked with just as he forgave anybody who might have offended him in the course of work.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Aliyu Sanusi Rafindadi; the Acting University Librarian, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi Mohammed; and Malam Sani Abashe, who the represented the Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila, witnessed the occasion.
Others included the Director, University Health Services, Prof Dauda M Maigatari; the Director, IAIICT, Prof E A Adedokun; the Director, University Legal Services, Prof Ishaq Abubakar; and the Director, Physical Planning and Municipal Services, Arc Suleiman Mohammed.
They also included the Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Malam Auwalu Umar; and the Acting Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T Zango.
The Acting Chief Internal Auditor, Hajiya Fatima Ibrahim; the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ibrahim Sani Kaita; and the Principal Assistant Registrar in the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Musa Aliu, were equally present.
