ABU felicitates with Prof Adedokun as Chair, African Network Information Centre

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has congratulated Prof Adewale Adedokun on his appointment as Chairman, Board of Directors of the African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC).

Prof Adedokun, who teaches at the Department of Computer Engineering, is the Director, Iya Abubakar Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IAIICT), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Prof Adedokun’s regional appointment was announced last week by the African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC), domiciled in Ebene, Mauritius.

The Vice-Chancellor, who felicitated with Prof Adedokun on the new regional role, described the appointment as well deserved.

Prof Ahmed explained that Adedokun’s appointment was clearly a reflection of ABU’s high academic standing.

He also said ABU was not surprised by Prof Adedokun’s feat, given the university strength in the availability of various specialists across different academic fields.

The Vice-Chancellor, who said he was not doubtful of Adedokun’s ability to deliver on the new role, wished him success.

The African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC) is the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Africa, responsible for the equitable distribution and management of internet number resources (IP addresses and autonomous system numbers) within its service region.

AFRINIC, which is a non-profit and membership-based organisation, is dedicated to supporting the operational and developmental needs of the African internet community.

It is expected that Prof Adedokun, a distinguished scholar of computer engineering, will bring his wealth of academic and technical expertise to the new assignment.
