ABU Faculty of Life Sciences holds 2025 end of year luncheon, awards
The Faculty of Life Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, has held its 2025 end-of-year luncheon and awards ceremony.
The luncheon ceremony took place on Wednesday, 17th December, 2025 at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, stated that the programme was to demonstrate the tradition Faculty of Life Sciences was known for.
Prof Ahmed, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, noted that it was remarkable recognising people that had served diligently in touching the lives of other faculty members.
The Vice-Chancellor urged other faculties to emulate the Faculty of Life Sciences.
He said the choice of event was very strategic and that other teaching and non-teaching staff of the faculty needed to be encouraged to do well in research and innovation.
Prof Ahmed congratulated the leadership of the faculty for putting together the event and wished them well in all endeavors.
Earlier in an address, the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof Maryam Aminu, disclosed that the occasion marked the third consecutive edition of the end of the year faculty get together, initiated in 2023, strengthened in 2024 and firmly sustained in 2025.
Prof Maryam said that what started as a simple, yet intentional effort to appreciate service and encourage productivity had now evolved into an institutional platform for reflection, recognition and renewal.
The Dean explained that in 2023, they deliberately laid the foundation, honoured diligence, celebrated institutional memory and launched the maiden edition of the faculty newsletter, documenting people’s scholarship and collective journey.
According to Maryam, in 2024 they consolidated the vision, emphasized process integrity, especially the timely submission and approval of examination results, postgraduate coordination and faculty-level cooperation.
She emphasized that this year’s programme reflectsed a mature faculty that values research impact and productivity, through awards for Google Scholar citations and high quality publications.
The Dean lauded the resilience, professionalism and belief of the University community in the faculty.
Prof Maryam appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their unwavering support towards the success of the event.
Also speaking, a senior Professor of the Faculty, Prof I H Nock who retired on 15th December, 2025 thanked the Dean and other faculty members for honouring him.
Prof Nock said that though he was retired, he would continue to support the faculty.
The event was attended by Deans, Directors and Heads of Department within and outside the university.
